Captain
Shaunna is a life time local of Seaside and joined the U.S Marine Corps in 2009. She served in O.E.F in the Helmand Providence of Afghanistan as a F.E.T member with 2/11, as a Corporal in 2012.
She started volunteering in 2014 with Cannon Beach fire after serving in the U.S Marine Corps.
She earned her Associates Degree in Fire Science from C.C.C and her Bachelors in Fire Service Administration with a minor in Communications at EOU. She was hired full-time in 2019 as the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator (R&R)/Firefighter for Cannon Beach and Hamlet Fire Departments under a FEMA Safer Grant. Although she filled in wherever she was needed to included taking charge of the Surf Rescue Team.
While as a Firefighter and the R&R, she's had significant interaction and outreach toward public education and recruitment under challenging restrictions. Developed marketing and educational-based material. Branded internal and external communications presence on social media and multi-media platforms such as our website, Facebook, Instagram, news and radio. Promotes Fire Safety and general information to public. Worked closely with the CERT team and other City representatives to partner on projects and best practices. Stepped up to take on extended responsibilities during unplanned Fire Chief departure including captain-level responsibilities such as personnel supervision, training, and guidance. Developed, implemented, and maintain multiple firefighter programs. Participating in the Duty Officer Program as the Incident Commander for emergency scenes. Evaluate and maintained recruit retention programs. Improve and evaluate personnel growth and management. Executed administration responsibilities including record management. Assist fire chief in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, strategic planning, policies, and work standards for department.
In 2020, she was promoted to Lieutenant and in 2023 promoted to Captain.
Fire Certifications: Fire Officer 2, Fire Officer 3 (In Progress), Instructor 1, Rope Rescue Technician, ICC Fire Inspector 1&2, ICC Fire Plans Examiner, Driver, AO-Pump Operator, Wildland Firefighter 2, Hazardous-Materials Awareness Operations.
